Cop accused of sexting teen girls to go free on bail
A Glen Rock police officer accused of sexting teen girls to go free on bail Thursday.
Bergen County Superior Court Judge Susan J. Steele imposed several conditions on Detective Sgt. Eric Reamy in addition to the $250,000 bail payment.
Reamy must wear an electronic bracelet that will alert Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers if he leaves the residence where he’ll stay and he’s not allowed to have any weapons.
He also can’t contact any members of the Glen Rock Police Department, the Glen Rock mayor or council, or either alleged victim.
Reamy is allowed to visit his attorney and his physician if he notifies the sheriff’s office. Steele also ordered Reamy to meet with a licensed psychiatrist, social worker or psychologist for weekly counseling.
The 27-year-veteran of the Glen Rock Police Department is charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Reamy is accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl he was investigating.
He’s been suspended from his job without pay.
Brian Sinclair, an assistant Bergen County Prosecutor, said the state opposed his release. Reamy has 11 firearms to his name and two are unaccounted for, he said.
Richard Potter, Reamy’s attorney, said Reamy sold the missing handguns, but was having trouble finding the paperwork. Reamy may be able to track them down now that he’s being released, Potter said.
Potter expects Reamy to be released sometime before midnight Thursday, after paperwork is completed and the two alleged victims are notified. The prosecutor’s office will next present the case to a grand jury.
Potter declined to specify where Reamy is staying. Steele said he’d be staying at a “local residence” before lodging with another family member.
“He’s just really anxious to be with his family,” Potter said.
